The Log Lady

Born in Missoula, Montana, director David Lynch spent his childhood being shunted from one state to another as his research scientist father was often relocated. He attended various art schools, married, and became a father at 21. His experiences coupled with the violent and run-down surroundings of his art school in Philadelphia, inspired “Eraserhead,” a film that he began in the early 1970s and which he would work on obsessively for five years.

Though initially judged to be almost unreleasably weird, the film secured a cult following and enabled Lynch to make his first mainstream film, “The Elephant Man,” creating the unlikely teaming of Lynch and producer Mel Brooks.
